Summer Institute: Techniques include play, cognitive behavior, and art interventions. A combination of theory and practice with a strong emphasis on skill building will be provided. This series is offered as a five-day training. We recommend that you attend the entire series, however, you are welcome to choose any of the workshops.

FUNDAMENTALS OF PLAY THERAPY
Beginners will gain an understanding of play therapy and learn how it differs from regular play. History and theory of play therapy will be presented as well as how to implement the play therapy process from beginning to end. Participants will learn how to set up the therapy room, identify
themes, therapeutic responses and specific interventions during the various stages of play therapy.
Tuesday, July 29 & Wednesday, July 30: Mary Ortwein, MSW, LMFT
CHILD-CENTERED PLAY THERAPY
During this 12-hour session, you will be introduced to the entire play therapy process from start to finish, including learning how to make skilled responses, identifying therapeutic themes and isseus, tracking progress, and making decisions surrounding termination of sessions. You will also examine how to select toys for the playroom and work with parents effectively. This workshop will provide a framework for conducting play therapy in order for you to begin conducting this work immediately.
Day#1 will include didactic information and videotape presentation. Day #2 will provide role-play and h ands on practice. If you are serious about play therapy, this workshop is a MUST! All participants must attend both days.

Kaleidoscope of Art/Play Therapy Techniques
An array of play techniques to engage and reach children will be taught and demonstrated. Rationale behind the various techniques will be explained. Participants will be able to observe demonstrations as well as practice the techniques. Interventions to help children build self-esteem, identify and tolerate a wide range of feelings, death and dying issues and anger management strategies will be included. This workshop is highly experiential and interactive.

PLAY THERAPY WITH THE ANGRY CHILD
This workshop will focus on the psychodynamics of anger, some reasons why it occurs and how it is manifested in children. Specific strategies for working with the child in the playroom as well as to coach parents in managing the childs behavior will be explored.

Cancellation Policy:
If you are not able to attend a seminar at least 10 working days prior written notice must be received in our office. $25.00 is retained for processing. If you are not able to attend, please consider the following options: 1. Have someone replace you 2. Attend another session 3. Obtain a voucher to be used within six months. If you do not cancel in advance, you will not receive a refund or credit. For Track A, cancellations will not be honored 30 days after the cycle begins. We reserve the right to reschedule or cancel a workshop due to low attendance or inclement weather. We also reserve the right to substitute instructors.
